BDP forms joint venture with Czech logistics firm
PHILADELPHIA, PRAGUE,
August 19, 2007 -- BDP International (BDP), a U.S. based global
logistics and transportation company, has acquired a major stake
in Wakestone s.r.o., a full-service logistics firm based in
Prague, the Czech Republic.
The resulting joint venture will conduct business as BDP Wakestone s.r.o., retaining the present Wakestone management team and sharing logistics information technology and BDP’s global network of subsidiaries, joint ventures and strategic partnerships in 121 countries.
"The importance of having a presence in Eastern Europe
cannot be overstated," said BDP Chief Financial Officer
Frank Osusky. "The Czech Republic serves as a gateway
to the entire region, and this new joint venture opens that
gateway for our customers. Though a relatively new enterprise,
Wakestone has quickly established itself as a leading logistics
provider to Czech industries. The firm’s experienced management,
commitment to quality in both its operations and customer service,
sophisticated systems, and ability to work effectively within
a global network mesh exceedingly well with our business model."
Established in 2005, Wakestone provides targeted logistics and
related services for the Czech Republic’s automotive,
retail and high-tech industries. In addition to Prague, the
company has offices in Liberec, Olomouc and Pisek. Its service
offerings comprise sea, air, road and railway transport services
for export, import and transshipments, supply chain logistics
services including warehousing and distribution, customs services,
Intrastat, fiscal representation and transport insurance.
"Just as our joint venture provides BDP and its customers
direct access to Eastern Europe, BDP gives us access to the
rest of the world via its extensive global network, making it
a win-win for everyone involved," said Wakestone’s
shareholder and executive director Jaroslav Schön. "But
beyond the exigencies of international trade, we feel extremely
comfortable with BDP’s corporate culture and values, which
so closely parallel ours."
