Member companies build on BDP's existing international presence to extend global reach
October 21, 2008--SINGAPORE--Fourteen new members have joined the BDP International Global Network - an alliance of small to mid-sized logistics firms established to challenge large multi-national logistics and transport companies by delivering higher standards of customer service.
Tim Frear, Director of BDP Global Network Services (GNS), the Singapore-based administrative arm of the group, said each of the partner companies covers a specific country and together with parent company BDP International’s own extensive market reach, form a seamless web of logistic services that spans the globe.
"BDP International already has a network of its own offices and facilities located in key locations around the world. The 14 new GNS members are in countries where BDP International has decided to work with a trusted, like-minded partner to help customers grow," Mr. Frear said.
"We established the BDP Global Network in response to market demand for more intensive customer service. The move follows an unprecedented period of consolidation in the logistics industry which has seen its largest players acquire many smaller firms. The sheer size of these heavily asset-based mega-forwarders has a way of treating customers like commodities.
"Customers with global supply chains need and want flexibility. The mega-forwarders believe bigger is better and offer a one size fits all approach. BDP and its Global Network Partner firms have a different view - that personal relationships, operational excellence and intimate understanding of our client’s businesses are more important than sheer size.
"Together, this group of carefully selected firms can effectively compete with the spending power and reach of the multi-nationals. Our membership-based program will enable quality firms to be part of a truly global organization without compromising client service.
"And the alliance has not finished growing. Our aim is to make this the most prestigious network in the world. It is a unique, business model that will reduce complexity for partner members and provide access to the shared assets and geographic presence of a respected global brand in our parent BDP International," Mr. Frear said.
Each of the 14 firms has joined as Premium Members. Premium Membership offers access to the assets of BDP International’s world-class technology, sales and marketing support, competitive transportation products, established operations in the world’s leading and emerging markets, expertise in trade and security compliance, finance and legal issues, strong client relationships, global integration and shared administrative services. The direction of the BDP Global Network is set by the representatives of the partner firms themselves and parent company BDP International.
